Tennessee Offers Emergency Cash Aid After Hurricane Helene

Tennessee to provide one-time cash assistance to families impacted by Hurricane Helene.

The Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) has announced a one-time emergency cash assistance program for families affected by Hurricane Helene in several counties, including Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hawkins, Johnson, Unicoi, and Washington. Households can receive payments ranging from $500 to $1,000 based on the number of family members.

Families enrolled in the Families First (TANF) or SNAP programs in the affected counties will automatically receive benefits if their cases were active as of September 27, 2024, and remained active on October 1, 2024. These families will receive the funds on their EBT cards during the week of October 21, 2024.

Other residents in the impacted counties may also apply for the assistance if they meet specific eligibility criteria, such as having a child under 18, meeting income guidelines, and being unable to live in their home due to hurricane damage. Applications are accepted online at https://onedhs.tn.gov/csp from October 21 to October 25, 2024.
