Temporary Closure of East Tennessee Driver Services Locations

Sixteen East Tennessee driver service centers to close temporarily for equipment upgrades.

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security has announced the temporary closure of multiple Driver Services locations across East Tennessee. The closures, scheduled for a single day next week, will facilitate the installation of new credentialing equipment and self-service kiosks.

The affected locations include both Driver Services Centers and County Clerk partner locations.

The closures will occur on the following dates:

– Monday, October 21: Johnson City Driver Services Center, Johnson County Clerk, Grainger County Clerk, Sullivan County Clerk

– Tuesday, October 22: Greeneville Driver Services and Reinstatement Center, Hawkins County Clerk, Unicoi County Clerk

– Wednesday, October 23: Blountville Driver Services Center, Claiborne County Clerk, Cocke County Clerk, Sevierville Driver Services Center

– Thursday, October 24: Alcoa Driver Services Center, Hancock County Clerk, Jefferson County Clerk

– Friday, October 25: Morristown County Driver Services Center, Oak Ridge Driver Services Center

The newly installed self-service kiosks will enhance customer convenience by supporting a range of transactions. These include renewing or replacing Driver Licenses or ID Cards, changing addresses, updating emergency contact information, advancing Teen/Graduated Driver Licenses, paying reinstatement fees, and requesting license reissues after meeting reinstatement requirements. The kiosks are equipped to take photos and accept payments via Apple Pay, Google Pay, or credit and debit cards.

Mobile Hazardous Waste Collection in Jefferson County

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) will conduct a free mobile hazardous waste collection event in Jefferson County on October 19, as part of recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene. Residents can dispose of hazardous household items at the Jefferson County Landfill, with guidelines provided for safe transport. The initiative aims to assist individual households, not businesses or municipalities. Additional recovery resources and updates are available online through TDEC and TEMA.
