Two teenagers, Eduardo Melendez-Pineda, aged 18, and Melany Sigaran-Pineda, aged 15, have been charged in connection with a carjacking incident in Mount Juliet. The incident occurred when the two allegedly stole a 2014 Toyota RAV4 at gunpoint from a victim outside his residence on Patricia Drive. During the robbery, Melendez-Pineda is accused of firing a shot into the vehicle and another into the air, while Sigaran-Pineda allegedly forced the vehicle’s occupants out at gunpoint.
The following night, the stolen vehicle was spotted in Mount Juliet, leading to a police pursuit. The suspects, along with a 17-year-old male they had picked up, fled in the vehicle, which eventually crashed at the intersection of Hobson Pike and Smith Springs Road in Davidson County. The car caught fire, but all three occupants managed to escape the wreckage.
Melendez-Pineda was quickly apprehended by the police, and a handgun discarded by him was recovered. Sigaran-Pineda was found in the back seat of another vehicle, a Dodge Charger, armed with a semi-automatic pistol. The driver of the Charger, Kevin Miranda-Robles, 23, faces charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and other violations. He is currently out on a $2,000 bond.
The third occupant of the RAV4, who is not believed to have been involved in the initial carjacking, was captured by a Mount Juliet Police officer and his canine partner.
Melany Sigaran-Pineda admitted to her role in the carjacking during an interview and is charged in Juvenile Court. Eduardo Melendez-Pineda has refused to provide a statement and remains in jail with a bond set at $82,500.
