Teen Driver Identified in Stolen Car Crash

A 17-year-old was critically injured in a crash involving a stolen vehicle.

The driver of a stolen Audi Q5 involved in a serious crash on Murfreesboro Pike has been identified as 17-year-old Corey Carpenter. The accident occurred on Friday morning near Morris Gentry Boulevard, where initial investigations suggest the vehicle was speeding and maneuvering through the right turn lane when it hit a curb. This caused the car to become airborne before colliding with a utility pole and a culvert.

Carpenter, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown 115 feet from the vehicle. He was subsequently taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The Audi had been reported stolen the previous day from a garage on Criddle Street, where the keys had been left inside.

Following the crash, police recovered two handguns, a 9-millimeter magazine, and two laptops from the vehicle.
