A tragic incident occurred early Saturday morning in Nashville when a pedestrian, identified as 58-year-old Michael O’Connell from Belmar, New Jersey, was fatally struck by a vehicle. The accident happened at approximately 1 a.m. as O’Connell was crossing Broadway at 12th Avenue in a designated crosswalk.
According to the preliminary investigation, Joey Nixon, a 36-year-old resident of Waverly, Tennessee, was driving a 2009 Dodge pickup truck. Nixon attempted a left turn onto Broadway from 12th Avenue South when he hit O’Connell, who was crossing with the walk signal. Despite having a green light, Nixon failed to yield to the pedestrian, resulting in O’Connell’s death at the scene.
Witnesses reported that Nixon had been spinning the truck’s tires and speeding before the collision occurred. After initially leaving the scene, Nixon returned shortly thereafter. Authorities noted that Nixon displayed no signs of impairment at the time of the incident. He was issued a citation for failing to yield the right of way. The case is under review by the District Attorney’s Office, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Fatal Food Truck Accident in Nashville Parking Lot
A tragic accident occurred in Nashville when Favian Ubense Cruz-Vargas was fatally injured by a food truck driven by Omar Martinez-Gonzalez, who was inexperienced and lacked a valid driver’s license. Cruz-Vargas was helping guide the truck when he became trapped between it and a building. He was taken to Skyline Medical Center, where he later died, and Martinez-Gonzalez was subsequently arrested and charged.
