Ohio Man Receives 15-Year Sentence for Child Exploitation

Ohio resident sentenced for attempted sexual exploitation of a minor via online interaction.

A man from Ripley, Ohio, Barron M. Poole, 50, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempting to sexually exploit a minor. This sentence follows his guilty plea, as announced by Acting United States Attorney Thomas J. Jaworski for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Court documents reveal that on February 2, 2023, Poole, using the profile “Barron read bio,” contacted an undercover FBI employee on a dating app known to attract minors and individuals seeking to exploit them. The FBI employee was operating a covert investigation under the guise of an 18-year-old female, with a status indicating she was actually 13. Believing he was conversing with a 13-year-old girl, Poole requested nude photographs, sent images of nude adult females for the girl to imitate, and shared explicit photos of himself. The exchange continued for a week.

Poole was arrested at his home in Ohio, where he admitted to using the dating app and confirmed his identity as “Barron read bio.” Following his prison sentence, Poole will undergo five years of supervised release.

The investigation was carried out by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Clarksville Resident Agency and Nashville Field Office, with support from the FBI’s Cincinnati Field Office. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica R. Morrison.
