October Highlights from Murfreesboro’s “In the City

Murfreesboro's "In the City" October edition covers local projects and events.

The October edition of Murfreesboro’s “In the City” offers updates on several projects and events throughout the city. CityTV’s Michael Linn White hosts the program, which is available on CityTV, Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms. Among the featured stories is the Town Creek project, which involves the demolition of buildings on NW Broad Street as part of the Town Creek Daylighting project aimed at revitalizing the downtown area. The city’s Public Works department, led by Executive Director Raymond Hillis and Engineer Gariel Moore, is working on restoring an underground stream as part of this project.

The program also covers the Fourth Annual Mayor’s Golf Invitational, which raised funds to allow children to play free at Bloomfield Links. The Murfreesboro Transit Center construction update highlights a new facility on New Salem Hwy and Bridge Ave, set to be completed by April 2025.

Additional segments include the Reading in the Schools Day, the MFRD 9/11 Stair Climb in remembrance of the fallen first responders, and the opening of the new Oakwood Trail at Barfield Crescent Park. The trail offers a .67-mile loop for hikers to explore the natural habitat.

Other features include renovations to the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Station No. 3 and the Tennis/Pickleball Courts at Old Fort Park. The Greenway Arts Festival celebrated its 20th year, and the Rutherford County PAWS Pet of the Month introduced “Sally,” “Bethany,” and “Cashmere.”

“In the City” is produced by Steve Burris at the Murfreesboro City Hall studios and can be viewed on various platforms including Comcast Xfinity, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and the city’s website.
