The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) is actively addressing a rockslide affecting River Trace, located off State Route 12. The department has developed a Phase 1 action plan aimed at mitigating the ongoing issue. As part of this plan, NDOT may need to obtain temporary construction easements from property owners adjacent to the affected areas, as some mitigation work might extend beyond the public right-of-way into private properties.
NDOT is set to finalize the Phase 1 plan within the next two weeks. Community meetings will be scheduled subsequently to present detailed information about the project, including expected timelines. These meetings will also serve as a platform for stakeholders to voice questions or concerns.
The NDOT is conducting weekly site inspections to ensure traffic control measures are effective and to monitor for any signs of further rockface instability. Following a recent weather event triggered by Helene, inspection frequency has been increased to ensure roadway safety.
Residents are encouraged to report any unsafe conditions to the Metro Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The OEM operates around the clock and can be reached via email at [email protected] or phone at 615-862-8530. This is the most efficient way to alert NDOT to any urgent issues.

As for detours, local residential traffic can still access the roadway. However, bicyclists are advised to use Ashland City Highway/Tennessee Highway 12 as an alternative route. A detailed map of the temporary closure and detour can be viewed here.
In related news, NDOT is advancing various transportation initiatives, including the establishment of Nashville’s first Traffic Management Center and hosting events such as the Transportation Demand Management Summit.
