Nashville’s Ongoing Efforts Against Vehicle-Related Crimes

Nashville Police Department intensifies efforts against vehicle thefts and related crimes.

The Nashville Police Department urges residents to take preventive measures against vehicle-related crimes by locking their automobile doors, securing valuables—particularly firearms—and removing their keys from vehicles. This year, 723 guns have been reported stolen from vehicles in Nashville, with 19 taken just last week. The total number of firearms stolen in Davidson County this year stands at 987, with 73% of these taken from automobiles.

Comparing figures from the previous year, there is a noted 26% decrease in the number of guns stolen from vehicles, with 263 fewer firearms taken. In response to this issue, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) launched a special initiative on February 1 to tackle vehicle theft and related crimes. This initiative has led to 866 arrests and the recovery of 454 stolen vehicles and 165 firearms.

Stolen vehicles, much like firearms taken from cars, are frequently used in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies. The department continues to pursue these efforts to reduce vehicle thefts and ensure public safety.
