Homicide Unit detectives, along with their counterparts from the Specialized Investigations and Special Victims Division, are actively investigating the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Alyssa Lokits. The incident occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Monday along the Mill Creek Greenway, located off Old Hickory Boulevard. According to preliminary findings, Lokits was exercising on the trail when witnesses heard her shouting for assistance.
Witnesses reported observing a man, possibly of Asian descent, on top of Lokits before gunshots were heard. The suspect subsequently fled the scene in a dark-colored four-door sedan, heading towards Old Hickory Boulevard. Lokits was found in the wood line with a gunshot wound and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Lokits’s vehicle was located at a different trailhead entrance on Pettus Avenue. Raybon Porter, a 25-year-old man, was fatally shot in a parking lot at 2510 Murfreesboro Pike early Sunday morning. The incident occurred when occupants of at least two vehicles opened fire, and Porter, who was likely not the intended target, was struck by a bullet. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he later died. Authorities are seeking information from the public, offering a reward for leads, and encouraging witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers.
