The Nashville Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) has dispatched a Communications Leader (COML) to East Tennessee to assist with the ongoing response efforts following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
Barbara Boske, a DEC Supervisor and a credentialed COML with 16 years of experience in emergency communications, arrived in East Tennessee this morning. She will be managing communications among state, local, and federal agencies from the Carter County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Boske is expected to remain in this role for a period of 7 to 14 days.
This deployment is in response to an official request made through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), a mutual aid agreement among U.S. states and territories aimed at sharing resources during natural and man-made disasters, including terrorism.
The Nashville DEC has ensured that sufficient staff and resources remain available to address any local needs while supporting external agencies.
