Nashville Ballet Premieres Día de Los Muertos Production

Nashville Ballet celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Día de Los Muertos premiere.

Nashville Ballet is concluding Hispanic Heritage Month with the world premiere of “Día de los Muertos,” a new production set to be performed from October 17 to 20 at The Martin Center for Nashville Ballet. The ballet is the work of Maria Konrad, Director of the Second Company (NB2) and an award-winning choreographer, and draws inspiration from the lives of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The performance aims to celebrate the themes of life and death, family connections, and shared humanity.

The leading roles will be portrayed by NB2 artists Summer Montenegro and Veronica Jaspers as Frida, alongside Quinn Culhane and Shawn Pearson as Diego. The entire NB2 ensemble will participate in this vibrant production. Konrad expressed her enthusiasm for integrating deeply rooted Mexican traditions into the performance, which has garnered significant support from the local and national communities. The show promises an engaging experience for audiences of all ages, with visually striking set designs by Nick Embree, costume designs by Carolina Fernandez, and music that enhances the narrative.

Maria Konrad’s choreography has been showcased at prestigious venues and festivals, including Lincoln Center in New York City, Philadelphia Ballet, and the Nervi Festival in Italy. Her work has earned recognition from organizations such as Young Arts and YAGP, and she has been a guest instructor at various esteemed institutions.

Additionally, Latin artist Rachel Rodriguez will perform a pre-show concert on October 20. Rodriguez, who contributed to the musical aspect of the production, will perform “Corazoncito Tirano,” a song from her upcoming album that holds personal significance for her and her family.

Tickets for the performances are available for purchase at $35 through the Nashville Ballet website, the TPAC Box Office, or by phone. Attendees on October 19 will have the opportunity to buy exclusive Día de los Muertos-themed merchandise.
