The Murfreesboro Municipal Airport is set to participate in the Discovery Center’s 3rd Annual TN STEAM Festival, scheduled from October 11 to 17, 2024. As part of the festival, the airport will organize a free event on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., focusing on the integration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) in aviation.
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of flight and the role of the Murfreesboro Airport in the local community. The event will feature a variety of displays, including a static exhibition of aviation technology and educational activities designed to explain the fundamentals of aviation.
Highlighting the event, Fort Campbell’s 2nd Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, will display an AH-64E “Apache” helicopter. Attendees will be able to interact with the flight crew and explore the cockpit of this leading attack helicopter.
According to Airport Director Chad Gehrke, the event aims to provide insight into the airport’s operations and its contribution to the community. Airport Manager Ryan Hulsey expressed enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing the importance of showcasing aviation through exhibits and guest interactions.
The festival will also include participation from the Experimental Aircraft Association, which will educate children on how airplanes fly and demonstrate the aircraft that operate regularly at the airport. Other activities include a paper airplane station and educational presentations by the Civil Air Patrol.
