Floyd Flippin, a native of Milan, Tennessee, has been recognized for his extensive contributions to high school sports officiating, receiving the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s (TSSAA) Distinguished Service Award. With 22 years of experience as a high school football official and 12 years in basketball officiating, Flippin has become a respected figure in the field.
A former high school athlete under coaches John Tucker and Glen McCadams, Flippin began his officiating career at the age of 44, a decision he considers one of his best. He is committed to staying involved in sports, working games from August to March each year. His dedication to the sport has allowed him to officiate at prestigious events, including two BlueCross Bowl State Championships.

Flippin’s journey as an official is supported by his family, including his wife Guinda, son Clint, and daughter Clare. He fondly recalls his own playing days and the lessons he learned from legendary coaches, which have influenced his approach to officiating.
In addition to football, Flippin also officiates basketball, adding over 550 combined games to his record. He cites the camaraderie with fellow officials and the opportunity to witness players’ growth and sportsmanship as key highlights of his career.
Despite the challenges, Flippin remains passionate about officiating both sports, finding joy in the different dynamics each presents. His commitment and enthusiasm continue to drive his involvement in the sporting community.
