The Department of Safety and Homeland Security has announced that the Memphis/Summer Avenue Driver Services and Reinstatement Center, located at 5266 Summer Ave., Suite 75, will temporarily close for renovations starting on Wednesday, October 16. The center is expected to reopen in January 2025.
During this period, residents can visit alternative locations for their driver service needs. These include the Memphis/East Shelby Drive Driver Services and Reinstatement Center, Bartlett Express Services Center, Millington Driver Services Center, Oakland Driver Services Center, and Covington Driver Services Center.
Additionally, services are available at the Shelby County Clerk’s Office, and at several self-service kiosks located around the region, including the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library, Germantown City Hall, and various Memphis Police Stations.
A range of transactions can be completed at these locations, such as renewing or ordering duplicates of handgun carry permits, paying reinstatement fees, reissuing driving privileges, adding emergency contacts, and updating or renewing driver’s licenses. The kiosks accept only credit or debit card payments.
Teenagers between the ages of 15 and 17 can take the knowledge test online with the supervision of a parent or guardian using the Tennessee Proctor Identification (PID) app. More information is available at the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s website: tn.gov/safety/driver-services/teengdl/knowledge-test-online.html.
