Knoxville Introduces Downtown Pedestrian Zone Weekends

Knoxville opens pedestrian-only zones downtown on weekends for the rest of the year.

The City of Knoxville has announced the introduction of a pedestrian-only zone downtown for the remaining weekends of the year. These temporary road closures will take place from Friday evenings at 6 p.m. until Sunday evenings at 6 p.m.

The designated closures include Market Street, spanning from Clinch Avenue to Union Avenue, and Union Avenue from Walnut to Gay Street. This setup will mirror the closures that occur during the Market Square Farmer’s Market.

The initiative aims to expand the busy Market Square area and offer additional safe pedestrian spaces during University of Tennessee football game weekends and the upcoming holiday season. Temporary no-parking signs will be placed in advance of each weekend to facilitate the new arrangements.

It is important to note that for this weekend specifically, due to several pre-planned events, the road closures will commence on Saturday. For more information, you can view all news here.
