MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (October 3, 2024) — A dog stranded due to the recent flooding in East Tennessee, a result of Hurricane Helene, was successfully rescued with the help of Murfreesboro Police Department’s K9 Kari. During a search operation on October 2, Kari, along with her handler Officer Angela Alexander, was assisting a team from the Kingsport Fire Department in locating flood casualties. Kari’s persistent barking alerted the team to the presence of a dog trapped atop a 20-foot tree, precariously perched on a pile of debris.
Firefighters from the Kingsport Fire Department located a ladder that had been displaced by the floodwaters, which they used to safely rescue the stranded canine. Officer Alexander expressed her pride in Kari, noting that despite her usual aversion to other dogs, Kari played a crucial role in finding a positive outcome amidst the devastation.
The rescued dog was subsequently handed over to animal control with the hope that it could be reunited with its owner. K9 Kari, a 5-year-old bloodhound, has been praised for her efforts in the operation.
