Detectives from the Homicide Unit, in collaboration with the Specialized Investigations Division, are currently following strong leads to identify those responsible for a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday evening on Jefferson Street at 27th Avenue North, Nashville. The incident resulted in ten people being injured, and tragically, the death of 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the gunfire involved two groups exchanging shots from a parking lot and the street. Although the motive for the shooting remains unknown, it is suspected that two of the injured individuals were participants in the shooting. Both individuals declined requests for interviews while being treated at the hospital.
Five of the injured were transported to area hospitals by the Nashville Fire Department, while the remaining five were taken to medical facilities by private vehicles. Vonquae Johnson succumbed to his injuries at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
