Investigation Underway for Fatal Shooting of 15-Year-Old in Nashville

Police are investigating the shooting death of a teenager in Nashville.

Detectives from the Homicide Unit are actively investigating the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales. The teenager was brought to Southern Hills Medical Center with multiple gunshot wounds on Saturday night. The driver of the vehicle in which Gonzales arrived remained at the hospital to assist investigators.

According to the driver, Gonzales had requested him to pick her up from Smith Springs Park earlier that day. Upon his arrival at the park, he found Gonzales with two males and a female. As they started heading back to his car, gunshots were fired, prompting the suspects to flee. Gonzales informed the driver that she had been shot, and he immediately drove her to Southern Hills Medical Center. She was later transferred to Vanderbilt Pediatrics, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Gonzales was known to have a history of running away in Nashville and was recently reported as a runaway by her mother in Arkansas. Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

Woman Arrested for Child’s Fentanyl Overdose

Tawona Pickens-Johnson was arrested in Tallahassee, Florida, for the fatal fentanyl overdose of her one-year-old niece, Ivery Holmes, in March 2023. Following an investigation, she was indicted on charges of criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child neglect, with plans for her to be returned to Nashville to face these charges.
