An investigation is ongoing following a shooting on Jefferson Street, Nashville, on Saturday evening that resulted in ten people being injured. The incident, which occurred shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of 27th Avenue North and Jefferson Street, involved approximately five individuals with local gang affiliations who began exchanging gunfire.
Among those involved, 24-year-old Vonquae Johnson was fatally wounded and later died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Two other individuals from the group were injured and have been hospitalized. Four of the five individuals have prior arrest records, with one having been convicted just six months ago for robbery, felony possession of Ecstasy for resale, and felony gun possession, receiving a 10-year probated sentence as part of the Community Corrections Program.
Detectives from the Homicide Unit and the Specialized Investigations Division are actively gathering more information about the individuals involved in the gunfire to build criminal cases against them. Nashville Police Chief John Drake emphasized the importance of addressing violent gun crime seriously, advocating for the incarceration of those convicted to protect the community.
Fortunately, all nine of the surviving individuals injured in the incident are recovering, with none reported to be in critical condition.
