The Nashville Police Department is urging residents to secure their vehicles and valuables, especially firearms, due to an increase in gun thefts from cars. In 2024, a total of 750 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, with eight incidents occurring just last week. This accounts for 73% of the 1,024 guns stolen in Davidson County this year.
In response to the rise in vehicle-related crimes, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) launched a special initiative on February 1, which has led to 905 arrests and the recovery of 478 stolen vehicles and 187 firearms. Stolen vehicles and guns are often used in further criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
