Several downtown Knoxville streets will experience temporary closures from Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6, 2024, due to various events. Residents and visitors are advised to plan accordingly.
**Friday, October 4**
*Austin-East High School Homecoming Parade*
The parade will begin at 4:30 p.m., resulting in the closure of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard between Ben Hur Avenue and Beal Bourne Street until 5:30 p.m.
*Knoxville Pride Parade*
Staging for the parade starts at 5 p.m., with the parade commencing at 6:30 p.m. Roads will close from 5-8 p.m., including Hill Avenue between Walnut Street and Hall of Fame Drive, Main Street between Walnut and Gay streets, and Gay Street between Main Street and Hill Avenue. Additional roads will close at 6 p.m. and reopen after the parade, including Gay Street between Fifth and Hill avenues, Market Street between Union and Clinch avenues, and Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets. These closures will affect on-street parking meters, and temporary no-parking signs will be in place.
*Jackson Avenue Block Party*
While the usual First Friday Block Party on Gay Street will not occur, a block party on Jackson Avenue will happen from 6-9 p.m., with live music and vendors. Jackson Avenue will close between State Street and Central Street from 4-10 p.m., including street parking meters, with temporary no-parking signs posted.
**Saturday, October 5**
*Market Square Farmers’ Market*
Downtown visitors can enjoy locally grown produce and handmade items at the Market Square Farmers’ Market, which continues through November 23. Market Street between Union and Clinch avenues and Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets will be closed from 6:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. These closures affect street parking meters, with temporary no-parking signs posted.
*Burlington Community Health Festival*
Organized by New Direction Healthcare Solutions and CONNECT Ministries, the health festival will close Martin Luther King Boulevard between Oakland and Lakeside streets from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Over 50 vendors will offer information on public safety, human trafficking awareness, housing, and economic development, with support from the African American Equity Restoration Task Force.
**Sunday, October 6**
*National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Memorial Stair Climb*
Gay Street between Cumberland Avenue and Main Street will be closed from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. for the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at First Horizon Plaza. This closure includes street parking meters, with temporary no-parking signs posted.
*Music on Main*
First Baptist Church is set to host Music on Main on Sunday, closing Main Street between Walnut and Locust avenues from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
