Carson Elder Named August 2024 STARS Award Winner

Carson Elder recognized for exceptional service in Murfreesboro's Parks & Recreation Department.

Vice Mayor Bill Shacklett acknowledged Carson Elder, an employee of the Parks & Recreation Department, as a STAR during the City Council meeting held on October 3, 2024. The STARS Service Excellence program is designed to honor employees who demonstrate exceptional service and align with the city’s core values. This program seeks to recognize and reward those who exceed their typical job responsibilities by delivering outstanding customer service to both internal and external audiences.

Carson Elder has been noted for his contributions to the Community Development Department, particularly in assisting with the removal of dead or dying trees for eligible households within the city. Known for his prompt response, Elder and his team have received positive feedback from homeowners who appreciate their friendly service.

In a notable instance from early May, Elder responded to a call about a resident who had been hospitalized and was unable to manage an overgrown tree posing a potential hazard. Upon evaluation, Elder found the tree was healthy but identified other safety concerns in the homeowner’s backyard. During his personal time, Elder returned to assist the homeowner with landscaping and other tasks, alongside his wife. Their continued support was a source of comfort for the homeowner, who expressed gratitude for Elder’s compassion and assistance.

The STARS award, which stands for “Succeeding Through Attitudes Reflecting Service Excellence,” celebrates employees who positively represent the city and enhance the quality of life for its residents. The nominations for the award are reviewed monthly by a committee of city employees who select the winner. Congratulations are extended to Carson Elder for his dedication and service as a STAR.
