A section of Bernard Avenue/Elm Street, specifically between Marion Street and University Avenue, will be closed for approximately one year starting Monday, October 28. This closure includes the sidewalks in the area. The Tennessee Department of Transportation has initiated this closure to facilitate the replacement of the overhead Interstate 275 bridge. The existing bridge, originally constructed in 1954 and expanded in 1984, will undergo significant improvements.
Upon completion of the project, the vertical clearance beneath the bridge will be increased. Additionally, enhancements will be made to the bicycle and pedestrian pathways along Bernard Avenue. During the construction period, traffic on Bernard/Elm will be redirected via University Avenue, West Fifth Avenue, and Marion Street.
