Two Men Arrested for Stealing Collectible Game Cards

Two men were arrested for stealing $8,000 worth of Magic: The Gathering cards from a comic store.

Two men have been arrested by Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) detectives for stealing thousands of dollars worth of Magic: The Gathering cards from a local comic store. The incident occurred on September 24, 2024, when Phillip Clodfelter, 42, from Huntsville, Alabama, and Kelly Garner, 64, who is homeless, broke into Grand Adventures Comics and Games on Memorial Blvd.

The suspects shattered the store’s glass front door and made off with $8,000 worth of the collectible game cards. They now face multiple charges, including burglary, theft, and vandalism.

The same night, Clodfelter and Garner attempted another break-in at Grand Slam Collectibles on NW Broad Street but were unsuccessful. Surveillance video captured the two men wearing distinctive masks—one resembling Michael Myers and the other a nun mask from the movie, The Town. The video also identified their getaway car, a red Honda.

Following a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) alert issued by MPD, Smyrna Police Department (SPD) officers stopped the red Honda for erratic driving. Upon approaching the vehicle, officers saw the masks and stolen cards in plain sight. MPD detectives subsequently interviewed, charged, and arrested the men.

Detectives also suspect Garner and Clodfelter of committing similar burglaries at comic stores in Brentwood and Nashville. Both men are currently held at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $48,000 bond.
