Two Arrested in Street Racing Crackdown in Nashville

Two individuals were arrested for reckless driving during a street racing initiative in Nashville.

The ongoing initiative by the police department to curb dangerous street racing activities led to the arrest of two individuals over the weekend. Alexis Palacios-Escalante, 27, from Murfreesboro, and Savyon Dequantez Morton, 21, from Nashville, were apprehended for reckless driving on Nolensville Pike.

Palacios-Escalante was driving a red Acura and performed a burnout at an intersection in front of a Traffic Unit officer. Upon being stopped, he was found to smell of marijuana and failed a sobriety test. He was charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence, and was released on a $4,000 bond.

Morton was observed speeding in a Chrysler 300 with two passengers hanging out of the windows. He fled from a traffic stop and was pursued by the MNPD Aviation Unit. Morton reached speeds of up to 125 miles per hour before stopping in North Nashville, where he was safely taken into custody. He was charged with reckless driving and evading arrest, and was released on an $8,000 bond.

Since March 2023, a total of 47 individuals have been arrested for street racing in Nashville.

Detectives arrested convicted felon Kyle Bell, 44, on felony gun and drug charges after finding crack cocaine, marijuana, digital scales, cash, and 7 firearms in his home. Bell faces charges for possession of controlled substances for resale and felony weapon possession and is held on a $110,000 bond.
