NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Approximately 10 soldiers from the Tennessee National Guard’s 1128th Finance Management Support Detachment departed Tennessee on Monday, September 2, embarking on the first leg of a year-long deployment to the Balkans.
Stationed in Nashville, the 1128th Finance Detachment is a unit trained to handle various financial responsibilities. These duties include processing soldiers’ pay, providing debt management, managing accounts for U.S. and coalition forces, implementing funding agreements with contractors and vendors, disbursing funds, and safeguarding the Army’s financial assets.
The unit is deploying as part of the Kosovo Force, a NATO-led mission aimed at maintaining freedom of movement and a safe, secure environment throughout Kosovo, as mandated by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244. U.S. forces have supported this mandate since 1999, with currently 4,600 soldiers from 28 different countries deployed in the region.
On the morning of September 2, the soldiers of the 1128th Finance Detachment said their goodbyes to family and friends before departing for Nashville International Airport. From there, they flew to Killeen Airport, Texas, where they will be temporarily stationed at Fort Cavazos (formerly Fort Hood). The soldiers will complete several weeks of final pre-deployment training in Texas before proceeding to Kosovo, where they will be stationed at Camp Bondsteel in the southeastern part of the country.
