Nashville Man Indicted for Federal Firearms Offense

Erik Dewaun Williams faces charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A federal grand jury has indicted Erik Dewaun Williams, 25, of Nashville, charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Henry C. Leventis for the Middle District of Tennessee.

According to public information, in the early morning hours of April 14, 2024, Metro Nashville Police TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) detectives were in the Bell Road area when a 911 call reported that individuals were arguing while armed with guns. Detectives promptly arrived at the scene, where they heard gunfire and observed Williams firing a pistol. Upon noticing the detectives, Williams attempted to flee and discarded the firearm during the chase. Officers quickly apprehended Williams, who had prior felony convictions in Rutherford and Sumner Counties and was out on bond for state gun charges at the time of his arrest.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department are investigating the case. Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas J. Goldin is prosecuting.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative uniting various levels of law enforcement and community efforts to reduce violent crime and gun violence, thereby enhancing neighborhood safety. On May 26, 2021, the Department of Justice launched a strategy to strengthen PSN, focusing on fostering community trust, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.

It is important to note that an indictment is merely an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
