The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) reports that a significant number of guns stolen in Nashville have been taken from vehicles. As of this year, 604 guns were reported stolen from vehicles, with 28 of these thefts occurring just last week. In total, 844 guns have been stolen in Davidson County in 2024, with 71% of these thefts involving vehicles.
In comparison, by this time last year, 852 guns had been stolen from vehicles, marking a 29% decrease this year with 248 fewer guns stolen.
The MNPD launched a special initiative on February 1st to address car theft and related crimes. This operation has led to 755 arrests and the recovery of 395 stolen vehicles and 140 guns.
Vehicle thefts are also a concern, as many cars are left with keys inside, making them easy targets for thieves. These stolen vehicles are frequently used in further criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
The MNPD strongly advises residents to lock their car doors, secure valuables—especially guns—and remove keys to prevent such crimes.
