Five male teenagers were arrested overnight following a series of vehicle burglaries reported at various locations in Nashville, including the Hampton Inn at 5630 Franklin Pike, the Estates at Brentwood at 570 Church Street E, and the Hickory Point Apartments at 15180 Old Hickory Boulevard.
When officers arrived at the Hampton Inn, the suspects, described as young men traveling in a white Hyundai sedan, had already fled. Shortly after, additional reports of vehicle break-ins were received from the Estates of Brentwood and the Hickory Point Apartments. An MNPD police helicopter responded to the Old Hickory Boulevard apartment complex, where it identified the suspect Hyundai backed into a parking spot at a nearby apartment complex. Several young men ran to the car and attempted to leave but were blocked in by responding officers. They fled on foot but were subsequently apprehended.
Demarian Couch, 18, was found in possession of a stolen firearm. Stolen property and burglary tools were also recovered. Couch faces charges including six counts of burglary of a motor vehicle, theft of a firearm, joyriding, and evading arrest. The other four suspects, two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds, are charged in Juvenile Court with various offenses, including burglary of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, joyriding, and possession of burglary tools.
The Hyundai had several broken windows and a stripped ignition column. The vehicle’s owner was contacted and confirmed it had been stolen. The investigation is ongoing into additional vehicle break-ins and other related crimes.
