Jackson, TN – Cordarious Baltimore, 30, from Brownsville, Tennessee, has been sentenced to 246 months in federal prison for his involvement in multiple robberies and firearm offenses. This sentencing concludes the legal proceedings related to a series of 2016 business robberies in and around Brownsville. The announcement was made by Kevin G. Ritz, United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that over five days in April 2016, two masked men armed with pistols committed robberies at three businesses in the Brownsville area. These incidents also included two shootings, from which 9mm and .22 LR shell casings were recovered by the Brownsville Police Department.
The investigation took a significant turn on April 25, 2016, when deputies from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department found clothing on a nearby road that had been worn by the robbers during a truck stop robbery. These items were sent to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) for DNA analysis, which in 2018 connected Baltimore’s co-conspirators, Lacey Jeter and Johnny Lee Nixon, Jr., to the crime scene.
The next day, April 26, 2016, Brownsville Police officers identified a vehicle matching the description of one seen leaving the truck stop robbery. After a brief chase, the vehicle crashed, and its occupants fled, leaving behind two pistols. These firearms were later confirmed by TBI Agents as the same ones used in the earlier shootings.
In October 2022, Baltimore pled guilty to multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, commission of Hobbs Act robbery, brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. United States District Court Judge J. Daniel Breen sentenced him to 246 months in prison and five years of supervised release on September 12, 2024. Federal sentences do not include parole.
Baltimore’s co-conspirators have also been sentenced. Lacey Jeter pled guilty and was sentenced in April 2022, while Johnny Lee Nixon, Jr. was convicted by a jury and received 160 months in prison with five years of supervised release in February 2020.
United States Attorney Ritz commented on the case, stating, “This defendant’s serious violent crimes justify this significant federal prison sentence. Our citizens deserve to feel safe in their communities, and that is why this office will continue to work with our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to vigorously enforce federal firearm and robbery laws.”
The Haywood County Sheriff’s Department expressed their satisfaction with the resolution, emphasizing their goal of making residents and visitors feel safer. They acknowledged the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, as well as the efforts of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Tennessee.
The case was investigated by multiple agencies, including the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department, Brownsville Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshals Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
United States Attorney Ritz extended thanks to Assistant United States Attorney Hillary Parham for prosecuting the case and to the law enforcement partners involved in the investigation.
