The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), in collaboration with the city of Memphis and the Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), has successfully secured the necessary funding for the Elvis Presley Boulevard project.
“This is a great example of what happens when the state and localities work to collaboratively solve a problem on behalf of Tennesseans,” said Deputy Governor and TDOT Commissioner Butch Eley. “I am pleased that working together, we secured the needed funding and have this partnership with the city of Memphis and the region to complete this project.”
Every August, state Departments of Transportation (DOTs) nationwide can request additional federal funding available for redistribution. TDOT managed to secure these unused federal funds for Tennessee because the Elvis Presley Boulevard project was ready for implementation.
TDOT’s Local Programs office has sent the notice to proceed with construction for the segment of Elvis Presley Boulevard from South of Winchester Road to Craft Road to the city of Memphis. This notice allows the city to move forward with the construction phase. For more information on the current phase of the project, visit the Elvis Presley Boulevard Improvements website.
Drivers are reminded to use all motorist information tools wisely and to check travel conditions before leaving for their destinations. It is important not to tweet, text, or talk on a cell phone while driving.
The Move Over Law, passed in 2006, carries the possible penalty of up to 30 days in jail and a maximum fine of up to $500 for violators in Tennessee.
