A convicted felon, Jeremi Ford, 39, has been jailed following a reckless gunfire incident that occurred on Saturday night on 2nd Avenue South. The incident, which took place at 11:15 p.m., resulted in serious injuries to a man and a woman.
The 44-year-old female victim reported that she was attempting to exit a parking lot in her Nissan Altima when she encountered a group of people. As she tried to maneuver around them, the group began yelling at her, and several females approached her car and struck her through the window. Her 47-year-old male passenger exited the vehicle and fired shots into the air in an attempt to stop the assault. The female driver then heard return gunfire, which struck her in the shoulder, while her passenger sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center and are expected to recover. The male passenger’s gun was recovered at the scene.
The shooter, identified as Jeremi Ford, attempted to flee in a gray Infiniti with three female passengers. Officers from the Entertainment District Unit, who were nearby, responded quickly to the scene. They provided aid to the victims and were directed by witnesses to the suspect vehicle. An officer positioned himself in front of the Infiniti and ordered Ford to stop. Ford continued driving toward the officer, who managed to get out of the way before Ford pulled into a parking lot where he and his passengers were arrested. Ford was positively identified as the shooter but refused to be interviewed.
Jeremi Ford, who has prior felony drug convictions, faces multiple charges including two counts of attempted homicide, aggravated assault against a first responder, felon in possession of a gun, and reckless endangerment. He was previously arrested in April for two felony probation violations related to a 2007 case. Ford is currently being held on a $560,000 bond. Both victims and Ford are residents of Nashville.
