Community Meeting to Discuss Renaming Cumberland Park

Parks Board invites community input on renaming Cumberland Park to Wasioto Park.

The Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation is hosting a community meeting to gather input on the proposal to rename Cumberland Park to Wasioto Park. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Parks Board Room at 2565 Park Plaza, Nashville, TN 37203. Attendees will have up to two minutes to express their opinions.

The mission of Metro Parks and Recreation is to provide an inviting network of parks and greenways that promote health, wellness, and quality of life through recreation, conservation, and community. The department manages over 15,000 acres of open space, including 178 parks, 100 miles of greenway, 4 nature centers, 27 community centers, 7 historical sites, 10 dog parks, 190 sports fields, 7 golf courses, and various programs such as after-school activities, fitness classes, cultural programs, ice hockey, and services for those with disabilities.

Metro Council Hosts 9/11 Remembrance Event

On September 11, the Metro Council Members and Vice Mayor Angie Henderson will host a remembrance event starting with a moment of silence at the Historic Courthouse, followed by a ceremony featuring a wreath-laying at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
