17 Guns Stolen from Vehicles in Nashville Last Week

Nashville sees a significant number of guns stolen from vehicles, prompting police to urge vigilance.

The Nashville Police Department strongly encourages residents to lock their automobile doors, secure any valuables—especially guns, and remove the keys.

So far this year, 640 guns have been stolen from vehicles in Nashville, with 17 taken from autos just last week. The total number of guns stolen this year in Davidson County is 896, indicating that 71% of guns stolen so far in 2024 have been taken from automobiles.

At this same time last year, 900 guns had been stolen from vehicles, marking a 28% decrease so far this year, with 260 fewer guns stolen.

The MNPD’s special initiative to combat car theft and related crimes, which began on February 1, has resulted in 789 arrests and the recovery of 408 stolen vehicles and 146 guns.

Vehicle thefts often accompany vehicle burglaries, as many automobiles remain easy targets due to keys left inside or being made available to thieves. Stolen autos are frequently involved in criminal activities, including carjackings and robberies.
