Two Arrested After Shooting on South Drive

Two men were arrested following a shooting incident on Vanderbilt campus.

Two men were arrested last night after a shooting incident at the Sutherland building at 1900 South Drive on the Vanderbilt campus. A 19-year-old man sustained a non-critical gunshot wound to his arm. The incident followed an argument among members of a construction crew working in the building.

Midtown Hills Precinct officers, in collaboration with Vanderbilt police officers, cleared the building and attempted to apprehend the two suspects, Luis Enrique Ramirez Sandoval, 38, and Jose Humberto, 27. Both men were apprehended by Vanderbilt officers at a nearby Mapco on 21st Avenue South. A firearm was found on Sandoval, who is charged with aggravated assault. Humberto is charged with facilitation of aggravated assault for retrieving the gun for Sandoval prior to the shooting.

Nashville Homicide Self-Defense Claim Investigated

The self-defense claim by Misael Garcia in the July 6 homicide of 16-year-old Jawaun Jones is being reviewed by Nashville authorities after Garcia, arrested on Antioch Pike, admitted involvement and was charged with evidence tampering.
