Self-Defense Claim Reviewed After July 6th Homicide Arrest

Self-defense claim under review following the arrest of Misael Garcia for the July 6th homicide.

A self-defense claim for the July 6th homicide of Jawaun Jones is under review following the arrest of Misael Garcia, 29. South Precinct officers apprehended Garcia on Antioch Pike this morning. Jones, 16, was riding his skateboard on Antioch Pike when he was approached by three individuals. A physical altercation ensued, during which Jones dropped a pistol. One of the three individuals retrieved the weapon and shot Jones.

Garcia was recorded by a surveillance camera jumping a nearby fence shortly after the shooting. He was recognized by three South Precinct officers on Antioch Pike this morning, and when approached, he admitted to being involved.

During an interview with Homicide Unit detectives, Garcia claimed he shot Jones in self-defense. This assertion is currently under investigation by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) and the District Attorney’s Office.

Garcia has been charged with evidence tampering after admitting to discarding the pistol following the fatal shooting. He is currently being held on a $3,200 bond.

Ex-Convict Arrested for Downtown Nashville Attacks

Jacob Harrison Thompson, a 32-year-old ex-convict, was arrested for two random attacks on women in downtown Nashville, facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, attempted aggravated rape, and attempted rape.
