Registered Sex Offender Charged with Sexual Battery

Matthew Lee Harber charged with sexual battery after incident involving an 11-year-old girl.

A registered sex offender on lifetime supervision has been charged with aggravated sexual battery following an incident involving an 11-year-old girl in a Public Square parking garage stairwell in Nashville.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at 101 James Robertson Parkway. The victim was walking up the stairwell with her siblings when Matthew Lee Harber, 39, approached and grabbed her buttocks before fleeing the scene. Harber was identified through surveillance video footage.

On Sunday afternoon, Central Precinct Officer Dean Ferrari, assigned to directed patrols focusing on persons with outstanding warrants, including Harber, spotted him in the area of Ronald Reagan Way and Peabody Street. Harber was subsequently taken into custody.

Harber has a prior conviction for especially aggravated attempted kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault from an incident in October 2012, where he grabbed a 12-year-old girl outside a convenience store. He remains in jail with a bond set at $75,000.
