The Nashville Fire Department and IAFF Local 140 have begun their annual Fill the Boot campaign to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). This campaign, which has been part of the community since 1954, aims to support groundbreaking research and provide high-quality care for families affected by muscular dystrophy.
From August 31 through September 10, Nashville firefighters will be on the streets with boots in hand, asking pedestrians, motorists, and other passersby to contribute. This tradition began when the IAFF designated MDA as its charity of choice, a partnership that has since raised over $700 million. These funds have allowed MDA to invest more than $1 billion in research, leading to significant medical advances, including over 20 new FDA-approved treatments since 2015.
“For 70 years, the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Fill the Boot campaign has raised critical funds for research and care for people who live with a neuromuscular disease, and we are honored to be a part of their effort for this important mission reaching a historic milestone this year,” said NFD Director Chief William Swann.
