Murfreesboro Sports Authority’s First Meeting Set for August 12

The Murfreesboro Sports Authority will hold its first organizational meeting on August 12, 2024.

The Murfreesboro Sports Authority is set to hold its inaugural meeting on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. This meeting will take place at the Municipal Airport Business Center Community Room, located at 1930 Memorial Blvd. in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The meeting’s primary focus will be on organizational matters. Public comments on actionable items will be accepted; however, individuals wishing to speak must sign up at least six hours prior to the meeting. This can be done by submitting a request online at https://www.murfreesborotn.gov/PublicCommentForm or by calling 615-849-2629.

The establishment of the Murfreesboro Sports Authority follows the Tennessee General Assembly’s granting of statutory rights to municipalities to create such bodies. The purpose, as stated in the statute, is to plan, promote, finance, construct, acquire, renovate, equip, and enlarge buildings, sports complexes, stadiums, arenas, structures, and facilities for public participation and enjoyment of professional and amateur sports, fitness, health, and recreational activities.

The Murfreesboro City Council has appointed the following city residents to serve on the Board based on their experience, education, and knowledge:

– Andy Ezell

– Paul Latture

– Ben Parsley

– Mary Elam Polk

– Whit Turnbow

– Robert White

The Board is scheduled to meet as necessary but not less than twice each year.

Murfreesboro Celebrates New Developments

Murfreesboro has recently inaugurated a new Skatepark at Old Fort Park and is set to open a renovated Old Fort Golf Club. The city also broke ground on a new annex for Reeves Rogers Elementary School and hosted several community events, including a Junior Officer Summer Camp and the annual Signing Day for new teachers.
