Key Insights from Chattanooga Music Venue Economic Study

Chattanooga Tourism Co. reveals insights to improve local music scene and attract more visitors.

Chattanooga, Tenn (Aug. 29, 2024) – Chattanooga Tourism Co., in collaboration with Conventions, Sports & Leisure International (CSL), has unveiled significant insights from their Music Venue Economic Research study. This study aims to enhance current music venues and explore opportunities for growth in Chattanooga’s vibrant music scene.

Barry White, President and CEO of Chattanooga Tourism Co., emphasized the importance of music in the community. “This study provides a clear path forward for enhancing our current venues and creating new opportunities for growth in our vibrant music scene, and providing one more reason for people to visit,” he stated.

Earlier this year, Chattanooga Tourism Co. commissioned CSL to conduct a detailed assessment of Chattanooga’s music venues to evaluate their current state and identify growth opportunities. The study aims to guide efforts in improving existing venues, exploring new developments, and addressing gaps in offerings to support Chattanooga’s thriving music scene.

The initial findings highlight Chattanooga as an attractive destination for cultural offerings, appealing to both residents and visitors. However, the study also identified a significant gap in outdoor, music-specific venues. To address this, the study recommends developing a new outdoor amphitheater with a capacity of 6,000 (3,000 fixed seats and 3,000 lawn capacity). This new venue would fill an existing market void and provide a versatile space for various events.

Key Stats from the Survey:

– Only 24% of concert attendance currently takes place within Chattanooga, with 76% occurring outside the city.

– 75% of respondents indicated a need for a new music venue in Chattanooga.

– Among the 12 venue types presented, amphitheaters were the top four preferred options.

– While 90% of respondents believe a new music venue in Chattanooga wouldn’t reduce their attendance at current local venues, nearly half (50%) indicated they would be less likely to travel outside of Chattanooga for events if a new venue were available locally.

Hamilton County annually welcomes over 15 million visitors who contribute $65 million in local taxes, saving each resident household $1,138 in taxes and supporting more than 30,000 jobs.
