Ex-Convict Arrested for Downtown Attacks

Ex-convict Jacob Harrison Thompson was arrested for attacking two women downtown.

A 32-year-old convicted felon, Jacob Harrison Thompson, has been arrested in connection with two random attacks on women that occurred Sunday afternoon in downtown Nashville. Thompson faces charges of aggravated kidnapping, attempted aggravated rape, and attempted rape.

The first incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. at Representative John Lewis Way and Lea Avenue. A 29-year-old woman, who had just finished work, was attacked as she got into her car. Thompson allegedly ran toward her vehicle, entered it from the passenger side, and tried to force her to perform a sex act. The victim attempted to flee by reversing her car, resulting in a collision with another vehicle. She then exited the car and ran away, with Thompson in pursuit. A bystander intervened by shouting at Thompson, causing him to flee.

The second attack occurred around 4 p.m. in a restroom at the Fifth and Broadway complex. A 30-year-old woman was assaulted by Thompson as she exited a stall. He allegedly pulled her by the hair, slammed her head against a wall, and attempted to remove her pants. Security personnel and the woman’s husband intervened, prompting Thompson to flee down an escalator. He was quickly apprehended by Central Precinct officers.

Thompson, who is listed as homeless, has a criminal history that includes a five-year sentence for aggravated burglary in 2010 and a 16-year sentence for especially aggravated robbery in 2011. He is currently being held on a $650,000 bond.
