Bryan Kerns Named Tennessee Teacher of the Year

Bryan Kerns from Kingsport City Schools wins the 2024-25 Tennessee Teacher of the Year.

The Tennessee Department of Education has announced Bryan Kerns, an educator from Kingsport City Schools, as the 2024-25 Tennessee Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made during the department’s 2024 Excellence in Education 65th Sapphire Anniversary Celebration held in Nashville, TN.

Bryan Kerns is a fire management and math instructor at Dobyns-Bennett High School, where he has taught for the past 18 years. He is widely recognized for his compassion and dedication to his students. Kerns has been instrumental in developing the Dobyns-Bennett Fire Program, which has successfully guided over 30 young men and women into careers in the fire and emergency services industry.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Kerns holds several leadership roles. He is the President-elect of the Bays Mountain Park Association Board and serves as the Southern Blue Ridge Fire Learning Network Landscape Lead for the Unaka and Great Smoky Mountains Escarpment.
