Vice Mayor Angie Henderson has issued a statement regarding the recent Chancery Court ruling on the size of the Metro Council. The court’s decision upheld the Charter of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County as well as the local legislation clause of the Home Rule Amendment of the Tennessee Constitution.
Vice Mayor Henderson expressed her gratitude to the Metro Legal Department for their successful argument in this case. She observed the case being argued in May and reviewed the full ruling of the Chancery Court upon its release.
Metro Nashville was the first in the nation to fully consolidate a city and a county government, resulting in the creation of a 40-member, highly-representative, local legislative branch by the voters.
“It is an honor to be elected to lead the Metro Council and a privilege to support all forty members in our collective service to the people of Nashville and Davidson County,” Henderson stated.
