Two MPD Officers Promoted to Sergeant

Murfreesboro officers Charles Ryan Speed and Steven Vajcner have been promoted to Sergeant.

The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) has announced the promotion of Officer Charles Ryan Speed and Detective Steven Vajcner to the rank of Sergeant, effective July 1, 2024. Chief Michael Bowen praised both officers, stating, “Both Speed and Vajcner embody the values and mission of the Murfreesboro Police Department. Their promotions are a testament to their dedication and hard work in serving our department and the City of Murfreesboro.”

Officer Speed joined the MPD in April 2017 and has held various roles, including Field Training Officer (FTO), member of the Community Oriented Policing Unit (COPS), and currently, a member of the Special Operations Unit (SOU). He is a U.S. Army veteran and holds an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Bethel University. Speed will now serve as an assistant shift commander in the Uniformed Division.

Detective Vajcner began his career with the MPD in July 2015. He has also served as a Field Training Officer (FTO) before advancing to the role of detective. Currently, he is a member of the Special Operations Unit (SOU) and will also be assigned as an assistant shift commander in the Uniformed Division. Vajcner is a veteran and a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard.

The promotion ceremony for Speed and Vajcner was held at MPD Headquarters on Friday, June 28.
