Nashville, TN – The Tennessee Department of Education has announced the allocation of over $2.6 million in Perkins Reserve Grant (PRG) funds to 55 school districts for the 2024-25 school year. These funds aim to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives across the state.
The PRG grants are intended to help school districts implement study programs aligned with emerging technologies in high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand fields. They also support the integration of STEM education in CTE classrooms and offer increased support for special education students. Furthermore, the grants focus on aiding rural districts and maintaining high participation rates in CTE programs.
“Career and technical education plays an important role in every student’s academic journey,” said Lizzette Reynolds, Commissioner of Education. “We look forward to seeing how districts utilize these grant funds to implement STEM curriculum, create career exploration opportunities for elementary and middle school students, and inform students on growing and new careers.”
This year’s PRG grant awardees submitted applications with action plans that align with the department’s state plan— Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act. These plans ensure alignment with one or more focus areas: foundations in elementary and middle grades, careers in emerging areas, and STEM in CTE classrooms.
