Nashville Restaurant Owner Dies Following Accident

The owner of Smokin Thighs restaurant in Nashville died after being hit by a pickup truck.

Matthew Carney, the owner of Smokin Thighs restaurant in Nashville, has passed away following a tragic accident. Carney, 42, was critically injured on June 19 when he was struck by a pickup truck on the restaurant’s property at 611 Wedgewood Avenue. He succumbed to his injuries on Thursday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Carney was thrown off a Nissan Frontier pickup truck onto Wedgewood Avenue as the vehicle sped from the rear of the restaurant. The pickup truck, which had a temporary tag, was later recovered on June 29 in the parking lot of the LaQuinta Inn on Sidco Drive, where it had been mostly spray-painted.

Fatal crash investigators are continuing their efforts to identify the driver of the pickup truck. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. A reward exceeding $10,000 is being offered for details leading to the arrest and indictment of the driver.

Driver Identified in Fatal I-24 Crash
