As part of the Biden administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Act, the Federal Transit Administration has awarded Nashville a $10 million grant aimed at enhancing Donelson Station. The improvements may include an expanded rail platform, a park and ride lot, and a transit center. This funding comes from the 2024 Buses and Bus Facilities Competitive Program.
Mayor Freddie O’Connell expressed his enthusiasm for the grant, stating, “On the heels of cutting the ribbon at the new Donelson library, this $10 million grant gives us an opportunity to reinvent Donelson Station to make it an even better asset for the community. That will help us improve everyone’s ability to get to and from Donelson with convenient transportation options.”
He further emphasized the importance of transit improvements, citing a recent survey where 89 percent of Nashvillians agreed that investing in city-wide public transportation is a priority. Additionally, a Vanderbilt poll indicated that 84 percent support placing a transit referendum on the ballot, with significant backing from both Democrats and Republicans.
Mayor O’Connell also expressed gratitude towards the Biden administration for their ongoing investment in American cities. He noted that passing the transportation improvement program in November would further position Nashville to benefit from these federal funds.
