Nashville Man Indicted for Unlawful Ammunition Possession

Kenneth Dewayne Johnson faces federal charges for unlawful ammunition possession after a Nashville bus station shooting.

Kenneth Dewayne Johnson, 31, from Nashville, Tennessee, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for the unlawful possession of ammunition. This charge follows a shooting incident in May 2024 at a downtown Nashville bus station, according to an announcement by Henry C. Leventis, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.

Johnson, who was initially charged through a federal criminal complaint, now faces a federal indictment related to the shooting on May 16, 2024, at the WEGO Station, located at 400 MLK Jr. Boulevard. The indictment states that a Metropolitan Nashville Police Department officer was nearby when the gunfire occurred. The officer reportedly saw Johnson holding a pistol and fleeing the scene. The officer pursued Johnson, who discarded the pistol before being apprehended. The recovered pistol was loaded with five rounds of ammunition, and a high-capacity magazine containing forty-nine rounds was also found.

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, along with the Metro Nashville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Juliet Aldridge is handling the prosecution.

It is important to note that a criminal complaint and an indictment are only allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
