Nashville Film Festival Reveals Six Feature Films for 2024 Event

The Nashville Film Festival unveils six feature films for its 55th annual event.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Film Festival (NashFilm), a week-long celebration of film, music, and culture, has announced a preview of six acclaimed films selected for its 55th annual event. The festival will take place from September 19–25, 2024, at various venues throughout the city. These films offer a glimpse into the diverse screenings that attendees can expect this year. While the full program, featuring over 150 films, will be revealed later in August, the first six official selections include:

1. **ANY OTHER WAY: THE JACKIE SHANE STORY**

– Directed by Michael Mabbott and Lucah Rosenberg-Lee

– Starring Sandra Caldwell, James Baley, Bobby Dean Blackburn, Rob Bowman, and more

– This documentary explores the life of Jackie Shane, a Black trans soul singer from Nashville, through never-before-heard phone conversations, animation, and a powerful soundtrack.

2. **BOB TREVINO LIKES IT**

– Directed by Tracie Laymon

– Starring Barbie Ferreira, John Leguizamo, French Stewart, and more

– Inspired by true events, this film follows Lily Trevino as she seeks familial connection after being abandoned by her parents, leading to an unexpected friendship with Bob Trevino.

3. **BOYS GO TO JUPITER**

– Directed by Julian Glander

– Starring Jack Corbett, Janeane Garofalo, Tavi Gevinson, and more

– Set in a cosmic Florida, this animated feature follows Billy 5000 as he embarks on an adventure involving an alien creature and the evil Dolphin Groves Juice Company.

4. **DIANE WARREN: RELENTLESS**

– Directed by Bess Kargman

– Starring Diane Warren, Clive Davis, Common, Gloria Estefan, and more

– This intimate documentary delves into the life and career of songwriter Diane Warren, showcasing her journey and collaborations with various artists.

5. **THE FRENCH ITALIAN**

– Directed by Rachel Wolther

– Starring Catherine Cohen, Aristotle Athari, Chloe Cherry, and Jon Rudnitsky

– A talky New York comedy about a couple in their 30s dealing with noisy neighbors, leading to a comical escalation of pranks.

6. **LINDA PERRY: LET IT DIE HERE**

– Directed by Don Hardy

– Starring Dolly Parton, Christina Aguilera, Kate Hudson, and more

– This documentary explores Linda Perry’s transformation from a rock icon to a successful songwriter and producer, highlighting her personal and professional struggles.

“These six selections are a wonderful representation of the numerous impactful, personal, and fun stories audiences can experience at this year’s festival,” said Director of Programming Lauren Thelen. The films will be screened at select venues, including the historic Belcourt Theatre, Franklin Theatre, and Regal Green Hills.
